Any very bright background will annoy the reader. After reading a few words on a background like this, the reader will usually decide to go away. Using a colour too close to the background colour can make reading close to impossible. Other colours tend to blur against the wrong background. You could get a headache reading this. |

A nice dark background with white isn't too bad, but gets a bit boring. Pastel is a bit less bright, and to my eyes more readable. But bright colours get annoying very quickly. Extremely difficult to read for any length of time. |

We can Also Make fonts too big or much too small. Or we can use fancy fonts that make your eyes cross. |

There are a lot of bad colour combinations to choose from. |

Some people seem to like to go back to old green CRT days. Well - it is readable anyway... At least it is readable with some font colors |

And although this is readable, the background is very distracting. I've seen many backgrounds that are quite lovely, as long as no-one wants to read any text on the page. You will notice that some of the letters are difficult to make out. My poor red eyes beg you to not do this!! Using the wrong font color will produce a real problem on this background. | |

I prefer dark text on a light background, though I would rather not have black on white. One of the reasons I run cgi script that allows stylesheet choice (besides the fact that it is fun), is that I've long since realized that we don't all have the same taste, if we did, there'd be a haggis shortage (if you haven't tried haggis, go ahead - but I hereby disclaim all responsibility for the reaction of your taste-buds and stomach).. There may be people out there that really like some of the above combinations! And if I find enough of them, sure - no problem, I'll be happy to make a stylesheet on the main site, just for them. |
