When I first started running around the net, Internet Service Providers were expensive. They charged a fixed rate for x hours, and extra if you used more than that. Things have improved since the old days (5 years ago) and we now have fixed rates in the US for unlimited time. That is not true in most parts of the world, however. So, on this one, I'm going to make a special effort to list companies in places other than the US/Canada, but only those that someone there has recommended. I'm listing very few in the US, only those that do not have adbars. As cheap as it is to surf here even on pay ISPs, adbars are not a good deal. I want to be paid for any adbar I've got to look at, and I don't want to be kicked offline every time I get a cup of coffee, just because I didn't click at the right time. As always, I suggest you try to do things that make them money. (Click baby, click!) The more money they make, the better access they can afford to give you! But don't sign up with Juno! |

| World Spy NO LONGER IN BUSINESS |
They were once my favorite free ISP. It seems that either they went broke, or sold out to Juno.com or both. Juno has pop-up banners and other annoyances. I suppose the ad pop-up sites make more money than the polite ones. | I'm extremely disappointed that they didn't make it. I suspect it's because they were loading a shopping only page. Most people using free ISPs are not the shopping type. But I hope that more like freewwweb start up.

FreeWWWeb NO LONGER IN BUSINESS |
See World Spy above. I don't like Juno's tactics. Freewwweb gave no warning, we just got a message that they were no longer in service. |
Another sellout! If you were with them, you can't get your e-mail any more, unless you join Juno. Not a bit of notice. Don't join Juno, get a web mail account, and don't trust the free ISPs! |

Free Internet Access with no Advertising! |
Free Internet Access in return for surveys done. No online tracking or email list selling. These guys have a wonderful idea - I love it. Unfortunately only in some areas of the US. Check and see if it is in yours! They also have an affiliate program . You might end up making money by joining! |
Hasn't sold out so far! |

| NTL Covers the whole UK. Phone and internet Also offers cable in some areas |
They have a phone and internet combo. You plug in an adapter to your phone line. 3p per minute day, 2p evenings and 1p weekends for phone charges. Internet calls are free. You must use the adapter to make at least £10 worth of non-internet calls every month (or you get charged it anyway). A one-off, £10 charge will be made for the telephone adapter. If you don't want to use them for phone, you can get internet calls at 1p per minute. | The problem in the UK is the telephone charges more than the ISP does. There are a number of free ISPs, but when you add in the per minute phone charges you are looking at pretty high rates. I know 3 people in the UK using this one and all are pleased, the phone rates are lower than normal, and the internet really is free! They do boot you every two hours though - that is the only serious complaint I've heard.

Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated, spam is not. I am now using
a CGI form which forwards to my mail instead of directly posting my address. I'd
love to hear from you. If you send me your e-mail,
I will do my best to reply; if you don't, I'll at least read what you have to
say.
