Earning Money Online

Affiliates

I decided to try some affiliate programs for the site when I found out that some of the places I was linking anyway were offering to pay me. I've joined some straight from their page, and some through various affiliate networks. I'll be listing the networks first, and then the individual affiliates, and why I joined them. In general, I joined the networks because I wanted a particular affiliate. I'll list whether they are sales commission, pay-per-lead, click-through or other. I'll also list whether they pay you for attracting others to their affiliate programs.

With each company, I'll put in a code to indicate what affiliate network they go through, if any. In some cases they were on several reporting sites. If I could find them on Commission Junction or Revenue Avenue, I joined them there, see my comments on those for an explanation. Most are through CJ. Revenue Avenue carries a different sort of affiliate, and there were very few I could use there (your mileage may vary). They prefer large sites, and mine isn't (yet!!). Linkshare, Reporting Net, and Revenue Avenue all seem to have consolidated from several companies, I've given the names where I could, in hopes you won't find them quite as confusing as I did originally.

  • Commission: requires something be purchased
  • Pay-per-lead requires something be done (sign-up for free service, download, or suchlike)
  • Click-through pays for unique click-through from your site to theirs.

Codes are as follows:
CJ = Commission Junction ..... RA = Revenue Avenue ..... RN = Reporting Net
LS = Link Share ..... In = Independent

Commission Junction
CJ

They consolidate reporting and payment for their merchants. The merchants themselves have no minimums, their amounts add into CJ's minimum.

Join the Commission Junction affiliate program!

Pays:
20% of Sale (Network Access fee only) when a new merchant signs up through you
$1 per Lead ( for new affiliate), plus 5% of whatever that affiliate earns through them.
$0.05 per Click-through
Minimum: US $25
Pays international, in US $

You only have to deal with CJ's minimum payment. If you have 3 companies and you make $15 from one an $3 on another and $10 from the third, you get a check for $28, even though you didn't make minimum with any one of the companies
If you are a merchant, I'd advise CJ. They do all the tracking, and they don't require exclusive contract. The merchant interface is user-friendly and attractive
Revenue Avenue
RA
Payment and reporting consolidation. They prefer the larger sites, with lots of unique hits. They have some good companies associated with them.
They have just reorganised and are only taking pay-per-lead and pay-per-sale companies now, no click-throughs. They were/are also Clicktrade, owned by MSN.

They have a good idea, I'm a bit cautious since they don't want smaller sites, and I am a smaller site. However, I'd still advise trying them, they may eventually realise that the small sites have a lot to offer that the big sites organised just to support advertising don't have.

LinkShare Referral Program
LS

Link Share is a reporting consolidator - you sign up for your companies, and they give you a one-stop shop for your income/tracking and so forth. But you must meet the minimums for each company you sign up with before you get a check. Best for a larger site with high traffic, they have a good selection of companies. Also known as linksynergy.com.

They have several of companies that I was linking anyway. This is a small site, I really have no idea if I'll ever make any money from of any of those companies, since many have fairly high limits. Can't hurt to try!
Reporting.Net
RN
Another reporting/tracking consolidator, with companies who pay independently. Again, probably best for larger sites, though the companies here are not as insistent on high site hits. Also a good set of companies on this one. Also known as BeFree.com. They don't seem to offer an affiliate program for themselves. Again, I joined them because of some companies I had links to anyway, and thought I might as well try to make some money for advertising them. They do have a good interface and a quite a few good programs.
Refer-it
In
The leading search engine for revenue sharing programs

They have a program that will let you keep track of all your affiliates anywhere. Quite handy. What they do best is link to a very large number of companies that offer programs, and rate them! And yes, of course they also have an affiliate program.

This is an extremely useful resource for someone who wants to be an affiliate. The rating system is based on company reliability, tracking system, pay scales and so forth. They just list and review the companies, who may be independent, or linked through one of the above sites.
