An introduction
I've been online since the days of the local BBS, and even before - I was on the original university net very briefly, back in the days when a modern computer room had teletype machines and card punches (yes, I really am that old). I've had great fun, been extremely frustrated, had my share of flame wars, chatted online, learned a lot of new things, and unlearned many old ways of thinking. I decided it was time to give some of it back, so I'm intending to give everyone the "benefit of my knowledge". Ok, ok - you can come out from under the desk now, I promise I'll try to make it interesting and amusing, or at least to not bore you to death.
I do have a few pet peeves, and some things I'm very enthusiastic about. I even have some "cool links" ( that phrase is one of my pet peeves, along with "hot links", but the search engines seem to like them). This site is text oriented. Since it's mostly information, I don't see much reason to make you wait while every cute icon on the web loads, along with pictures of me and every pet I've ever owned. If you disagree, let me know and I'll put up a page with me and cats, dogs, snakes, lizards and suchlike. And every smiley-face icon I can find.
The site is divided into sub-sections, feel free to click on any section that you find interesting. I promise you no flashing banners in this area, unless I put up a sample page to show how annoying they are (and if I do, they won't link to advertisers, and you'll be warned - "Approaching high-irritation zone"). I do have some advertising on this site, but it is text link only, and only for sites I find interesting, I figured if I'm going to link them anyway, I might as well sign on as an affiliate. I have had a few refuse me because I won't put up anything but text links, and they no longer are linked here - I may a bit of a curmudgeon about that, but I'm the publisher, and I get to say what goes on my pages!

- Internet Safety
- This area is about the Internet and web annoyances and dangers. This is where you can find information on dealing with viruses, how to get (mostly) rid of spam, how to browse the web without losing your privacy, with a bit of an overview as to what is and isn't seriously dangerous to the web surfer.
- Commentaries (where the webmistress tells you what she really thinks)
- This area has all the details. If you don't understand certain advice, or would like to see examples, here's where to go. The links to these pages are scattered throughout the rest of the site, anywhere that giving detail would have made a page much too long. If you like, you can read them all at once.
