Don't know how you found this page/directory, but we are glad you stopped by.
Originally this site was used for testing java search engine calls for a Tri-H / ExpressData / Internet KSC site called Phuket Today, covering Phuket Island and some other parts of southern Thailand. This search engine lives at www.phukettoday.com While we have now left the project, and the partners never decided to use its multi-lingual capabilities :( you might like to know:

Why was AWS doing this??

Good question:
The answer is very simple, and of interest. We found a way to work a search engine in an expensive bandwidth area (ie Thailand at 25B (about 80cents) per megabyte) by having the server there handle the searches, but all pages/images are stored on a free bandwidth site in the USA. (click here for our US price list.) Since only the text of the search was sent from the server there, this lowered the Thai babdwidth cost to about 25B for 1000+ searches.
Cheap and cost effective. Running the Phuket Today search engine currently figures at about $50 USD a month not covering staffing.
Not only that, we also are now experienced with multilingual search engines using JAVA technology, we can cover Thai, Sanskrit, Chinese (both), Japanese, Laos, Burmese, Cambodian and other non - standard scripts. Both as input and output from a search engine. Note this might also cover upper ASCII scientific texts also. Always more research ^_*
