General Travel Sites
I've used most of these as references and good places to get information, hints,
tips and so forth. Beware, many are big sites, and once you start browsing around
you may never stop. I haven't listed most of the most common ones, these are not
the usual tourist travel sites, but ones that are a bit different.
- eTravel.org
- What they have to say: "This site is for those who expect more from travel
than a swimming pool, a comfy hotel and a pink gin. Not for us the security of
the return ticket! Forget the travel agent! No way to the pre-booked hotel! Here,
you'll only find stuff for those people who prefer to make their own decisions
about their holidays." I couldn't have put it better myself.
- Steve Kropla's Help For World
Travelers!
- Listings of worldwide electrical and telephone information. Wondering how
you're going to recharge your VCR in Argentina? Hook up your modem in New Caledonia?
Call that number in India?
- Clean Bathrooms?
- I added this one for fun, and because I sometimes don't believe what people
will think important enough to put on a website. Find a clean public toilet anywhere
in the world, or submit your own candidate.
- Foreign Languages for Travelers
- Words and phrases in many different languages. You choose the language you
speak, and the language you want to learn. I try to at least learn how to say
hello in the most common ones! The main site
has more good information.
- Cybercafe Search Engine
-
Cybercafes
around the world. Handy reference if you are traveling sans computer and need
to keep in touch.
- World Weather Forecasts
- Worldwide wearher and links to more weather sites elsewhere - very handy page
if you want to check the forcast before traveling. Even more handy if you want
to sit on the tropical beach and gloat over the huge snowdrifts in your hometown.
